2019 has been another busy year for Hi-Level. Despite the doom and gloom regarding Brexit, we’ve just put our heads down, designing and installing hundreds of bespoke mezzanine solutions for businesses across the UK and Ireland.
And now, as the excitement of the upcoming festivities build, it is a great time to look back over the past year and pick out some highlights.
Strengthening the team
We are proud to have a loyal team with over 200 years’ experience in the mezzanine industry! This consistent strong experience throughout our staff, from our Project Managers and in-house Structural Engineers to our Business Development Managers, means our partners receive the highest standards of service throughout their journey with us.
Our Senior Structural Engineer Georgios Prassas was promoted to Project Leader this year, taking responsibility for overseeing our larger projects and liaising with both customers and internal departments to deliver exceptional customer service.
We also welcomed Surveyor & Project Manager Alasdair Reid to the Hi-Level team earlier in the year. He’ll be travelling the country surveying sites and meeting customers, so you may meet him soon!
Christmas isn’t the only event we were excited about this year…
This year we had the pleasure of exhibiting at two key tradeshows in the calendar, IntraLogisteX and IMHX.
IntraLogisteX 2019 was held at the Ricoh Arena, Coventry and took place on the 26th and 27th of February. The two-day event was highly focused, aimed at logistics and supply chain professionals, and our Sales team enjoyed networking with other exhibitors and making useful new contacts.
In September we joined over 450 exhibitors at the NEC in Birmingham for the largest intralogistics event of the year – IMHX. At the four day show we launched our HoloLens AR technology, allowing you to walk around your mezzanine at full size, and it was fantastic to catch up with many customers as well as connect with new companies. We also took the opportunity to see some of the exciting advancements in the materials handling industry; the robot that poured beer surely stole the show!
Adding new tools to our arsenal
Our Surveyors now have more equipment to choose from, as they take precise measurements and assess site conditions. Our new imaging laser scanners use the latest technology and capture an extremely high level of detail, which is proving invaluable to the design team back at head office.
The tripod-based laser scanner shoots out hundreds of laser points across 360 degrees at a 10-metre radius, creating a ‘point cloud’. After moving methodically through your site, these point clouds are imported into AutoCAD for our design team to work from. The scanner also captures an interactive image from every scan, all the scans’ images can be stitched together for the design team to interact with and view your site first-hand. Not only does it capture incredible detail, it also reduces time on site.
We also launched 3D Viewer, our interactive new tool that enables you to view the proposed column grid of your floor and rotate the model 360 degrees.
Some of our project highlights
2020 will be a very exciting year for the Performance Preparation Academy. The Guildford-based musical theatre college will move to their new premises which will become a fantastic hub for current and future performing arts students. We worked with them to design a large mezzanine and the project had its initial challenges as the foundations wouldn’t initially bear the load of the specific column requirements. We worked with the customer to achieve a creative solution that both saved costs and achieved their original brief. We can’t wait to see the finished look after the overall fit-out has been completed early next year > Read the case study.
We also partnered with a distributor to work with one of the leading packaging companies in the UK. We supported their move into a newly built fulfilment centre in Bedford by providing a custom-made mezzanine floor that would be used for storage and to support their conveyor system. The mezzanine structure was specifically designed to enable the installation of future floors as part of a phased build > Read the case study.
